Stats

wow, I’ve never realized statistics would be so much interesting than what I expected before. since my stats prof would go over chapter 4 today which is about probability, I planned to kind of read through the chapter last night, but instead of that I opened the link that the prof provided as an additional sources for fun. the link brought me to Youtube where there was this video introducing “the Monty Hall problem”. This Monty Hall problem is based on a game show and the strategy behind this game could be reasoned by statistics. I had no idea that we could use statistics to win a game. that is so cool. from this video, there is another link to another video that explains statistics behind the “21″ movie, the MIT blackjack team movie. I’ve seen that movie before, but I again didn’t realize they also touched up on statistics which is the Monty hall problem.

definitely after watching these videos, I am more interested in learning statistics.. yay..

late exam syndrome

I’m writing because i’m losing my focus on studying.

I have one week to study but I just can’t concentrate on studying. the lenght of study is way too long. the exam date is too late and thus shortens my holiday time.

anyways, what I did when I lost my focus on studying during these past few days was checking the latest news on Tiger Woods’ whereabouts, checking trailers of new movies, watching Susan Boyle’s performance on Youtube, and then just randomly net browsing anything that pops into my mind. it really wastes a lot of precious time that I should had used it for studying. Even writing this, I realize I have wasted a substantial amount of time.

okay back to studying. I am now trying hard to keep in mind what’s the difference between toxicants, toxic, toxicity, poison, hazard.. they all sounds really similar. i can differentiate it mentally, but to put in and explain it in words, it’s really hard..  memorizing is not my strong point, it takes a long time for me to store those informations in my brain’s memory.

I know this is the last exam and that’s it, this semester will be finished by this one exam if I can nail it. I kept telling to myself, you got to do this, you got to make this really really good, you had plenty of time, you should be really well prepared by the time the exam come, no more cramming the night before the exam with studying and “stay up really late” effort. but it’s so hard to concentrate if there’s another part of me saying that “hey you should take some break, you still have plenty of time to study, the exam’s day is still long”..

and here’s come the good side of me reminds me that I should start studying.

allright. I’m back to study..

Christmas day 2008

December 26th, 2008 § Leave a Comment

this doesn’t feel like any christmas day at all. no christmas tree, no present wrapped in the colourful wrapping paper and stuff like that, no snow, not even the cheerful, jingly song..

I won’t say this is the most dull christmas day I ever spent. I actually got the most expensive present for christmas, which is the new laptop toshiba portege 13.3″ from future shop that I am now using. I bought it on the day before christmas eve to prevent the long line up at the boxing day.
It’s pretty cool.. I like the design, especially the glossy black interior except for the colour of the exterior. In the beginning I didn’t like the fact that the colour is red, but eventually I start to like it. It’s quite sexy though..

Talking about not having snow this year ‘s christmas day is not what we all expected, since the news reported that it’s going to snow today. but anyway we still have a white christmas to spend in Vancouver, because most of the snow that we got from the snowstorm last tuesday and wednesday haven’t melted yet. And it’s so wet today.

this is also my second christmas in Vancouver. I got the impression that most Canadians would likely spent their Christmas with their family with turkey and stuff like that. A silent christmas I would like to say. Most of the shops close of course.. except maybe chinese owned shops which in my opinion open 365 days a year, which is good, because just in case you are tired of the turkey, you can still order dim sum or dumplings or any other chinese foods..
I did eat turkey for lunch with stuffing of bacon, herbs, and apricot, served with the buttery gravy, some potato wedges, and baked carrot, which is really awesome.

yeah tat’s wat i have for christmas. I think I need to go to sleep now, to restore my energy so I’m prepared to hunt good stuffs for tommorow’s boxing day..
Hope I could get what I want…

Merry Christmas.. Hohoho..

snow storm alert again..

I just turn off the weather network channel. they announced an alert of snowfall for greater Vancouver again.
Here I am, sitting on the hardwood floor, leaning on the edges of the couch, surrounded by boxes and almost empty apartment, looking over the balcony. it’s a relaxing position and breathtaking view from here. the snow just won’t stop falling from the sky. it’s so white.

I never expected I will leave Vancouver like this. I mean I never expected to see a real snowfall in here. Last year, Vancouver didn’t have this kind of weather. Today’s snowfall is the fourth one I believe. I like snow and this will be the greatest gift for farewell and a fabulous impression of Vancouver to take with me.

I like snow. I do really love snow. I never seen snow before until last december. And it’s really an amazing experience to get to feel, to touch, and to see the snow your own rather than through the TV.
If I have to describe snow, I will say it seems like gelato covering the top of my red balcony bars.
It also looks like a big pile of white icing outside of the yard and on top of the roofs.

It seems getting colder now somehow.
I think everyone is enjoying the tv under the warm blanket and a cup of steaming hot coffee.
A hot sizzling ramen covered with the gooey cheese, sprinkled with some negi, chopped white chicken breast and perfectly scrambled egg, then pour it with the spicy soup will do me good.

Or maybe a hot steaming coffee..
